LifeWorks will soon break ground on the $14 million LifeWorks East Austin Youth and Family Resource Center, which will house three nonprofits that share a common goal of getting clients on a path toward education, independence and financial stability.
LifeWorks plans to break ground Nov, 10 on the 31,000-square-foot, $9.3 million project at 835 N. Pleasant Valley Road, adjacent to Austin Community College’s Eastview Campus.
Meanwhile, planning has begun on a second phase — a 48-unit, $4.5 million affordable housing complex on the site. No timeline for the project is set because LifeWorks is still lining up funding.
LifeWorks Executive Director Susan McDowell said the expansion into East Austin will enable the nonprofit, which serves 10,000 families annually through youth and family transitional programs, to increase its capacity by 25 percent. The nonprofit, which has a $10.5 million annual budget and 165 employees, has grown its staff about 6 percent a year for the last two years and plans to add employees to accommodate its expected growth (ABJ).
